We discovered that our son Jonathan had several rather severe food allergies when he was about 14 months old.  He was allergic to wheat, soy, beef, chicken, potatoes, peanuts, eggs, milk, butter and cheese.


I spent a lot of time with nutritionists who told me that my son would just be “thin” . He was in the 75% bracket for height and 5% for weight!  He just wouldn’t eat the foods that were on the approved list. What could I add to rice to make it tasty?  Since he wasn’t allergic to vegetables how could I cook them so that they were tasty and he would eat them – without the traditional butter, salt and pepper?
 

I grew up with unbelievable cooks – my father was a lay-chef, my grandmothers were caterers, my grandfather ran a dinner club and I started my first catering business when I was 12 years old.  I knew a little something about food so I pulled out the home -grown recipes and cooking secrets that I had grown up with and developed the Saluda Spice Co. spice blends to add delicious flavor to the few foods that Jonathan could eat.  

I started using the spice blends for all of the family meals and it has become a hit all around.  Now my husband and kids – Marc, Jonathan (7) and Carter (4) ask for Saluda vegetables, Saluda rice, Saluda baked chicken…and the list goes on.
